What is the pattern of interaction between the client and other people involved?
Adequate interaction with parents, representatives, carers, fellow residents, colleagues, fellow club members and others can help prevent or mitigate many behaviour problems. This includes factors such as how contacts are established, adaptation to the cognitive and socio-emotional level, and communicative abilities. It also involves considerations such as whether to assume control, creating trust and security, correct timing, regulating an intervention, etc.
Behaviour can be adversely affected by: too much or too little attention, expecting too much or too little, unpredictability, failure to comply with agreements, a lack of structure, poorly prepared or poorly processed changes, quarrels, bullying, abuse, emotions of others (too extreme, too loud, too negative), 'corrective' measures and isolation.
Video analysis is one of the tools that can be used to establish a clear picture of interactions.
