Analysing factors related to challenging behaviour

When analysing the factors that could be causing challenging behaviour, it is important to determine whether: all pertinent information is up to date, the appropriate experts have been consulted, and the correct diagnostic procedures have been used. The outcomes of the assessment should be as thorough as possible as well as practical and appropriate for effective implementation. 28

The multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary team can then use the resulting information to attempt to explain the challenging behaviour. The resulting hypotheses can then be prioritized and tested.

Depending on changes in the client (e.g. age and life stage) and advances in medical science, it may be useful to repeat or conduct additional assessments.
