Learning from client history
Study the client's clinical and personal history and involve their parents and siblings. Has the behaviour been seen before? What can you learn from that? What worked? How does the client cope with stress?
When attempting to learn from client history, it is important to involve parents, representatives, and all people directly involved. They can often provide pertinent information. In addition, answers to the following questions can be very useful: How does the client cope with stress? Has the challenging behaviour been seen before? What was the analysis at that time? What actions and reactions were taken? What actions produced results and which did not? How was the challenging behaviour resolved?
